Children's Book Report - Extra Yarn

I've been hoarding this post for about a year now. I gave this book to Madeleine for Christmas last year, took some photos, and then never got around to posting it. Then suddenly, winter was over, and it didn't seem the right time to share.

So, without further ado, I present to you...

Extra Yarn by Mac Barnett and illustrated by the awesome Jon Klassen.
It's a sweet little story about a little girl and her magic box of never ending yarn. She starts knitting sweaters for everybody she knows, and pretty soon she has covered the entire town with her beautiful knitting creations - bringing color and warmth to her otherwise cold and dreary town.
The illustrations are what really made this book for me. It's so fun to watch the town transform from a bleak black, white, and gray landscape to a lovely rainbow of soft colors and texture. You can practically feel the coziness oozing from the pages.

If you're looking for a good picture book to give this holiday, I can't recommend this book enough. It has a holiday feel without being specifically about Christmas too, so it can easily be enjoyed all winter long.
