Let's Go To The Movies - The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2

Last weekend, I went with some girlfriends to see The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2. I actually thought Mockingjay was the weakest of the three novels, and was not impressed at all with the Part 1 movie (which I caught on Hulu a few weeks prior). The first two films were very good though, so I was hoping they could redeem themselves with the final ending to the series.

The revolution is in full swing, and the Mockingjay (aka Katniss Everdeen), is still its symbol of hope. Katniss is tired of being a just a figurehead and personal pawn for President Coin though. She wants to fight, and find the man she believes responsible for it all. With Gale and Peeta by her side, she goes on a rogue mission to infiltrate the Capital and assassinate President Snow.

Well, I'm happy to say this one went out on a high note! Jennifer Lawrence is simply mesmerizing. She did right by Katniss, and is so much fun to watch. The supporting cast was all pretty stellar too. I mentioned that Mockingjay was the weakest book in the trilogy, so it's a testament to all involved that they were able to make such an exciting and enjoyable finale. It's too bad that this was split into two movies though, as Part 1 was not strong enough to stand on its own. If they would have combined and shortened the two films they would have been left with a far superior final film and ending. It was, after all, a trilogy originally. If you've sat through the first three movies already, it's worth sitting through one last more. You won't be disappointed.
