2017 Met Gala - Not Your Father's Suit

There was a surprising number of pants worn at this year's Met Gala. Unexpected, but a lot of fun! Let's take look.

Aymeline Valade in Marnie
French model and actress, Aymeline Valade rocked this Marnie suit. The vintage vibe, the bright colors, the sparkle - I loved it all! Perfectly styled from head to toe. Nicely done, Aymeline!

Claire Danes in Monse
Claire Danes got her puffy shirt on in this black and white ensemble. That's a whole lot of ruffles (notice the train too), but I think she's mostly pulling it off. Honestly, I think it's the head styling and shoes that anchor this look and keep it from getting too needlessly frilly. The sharpness of those elements pulls the whole look together. Not bad, Claire.

Keri Russell in Rag & Bone
Kerri Russell is looking a little sad in her Rag & Bone pant suit. I think the no shirt was a missed opportunity. I would have loved to see a pop of red there to balance the look. Although, it's the hair and make-up that are the real disappointment. A look like this needs super sleek hair or super big hair - not, whatever this is. Then, the eyes are bit too heavy and the lip a bit too light. This one was a miss for me.

Emmy Rossum in Carolina Herrera
Actress, Emmy Rossum, looked lovely in this black and white combo. The simple black pant and shoe let the flowy white top take center stage. Sleek hair, bright red lip, and a great pair of earrings all complimented the look well. Good job, Emmy.

Hailee Steinfeld in Vera Wang
Hailee Steinfeld is still young enough to risk a look like this and not look completely ridiculous. I liked the slight military feel, but the baggy sleeves makes it feel droopy. Luckily, the short shorts and top knot help balance effect. Actually, I'd say the entire looked was saved by some pretty fierce head styling. Not my favorite look, but not a complete miss either.

Evan Rachel Wood in Altuzarra
Actress, Evan Rachel Wood fell short in this midnight blue and black look. I'm normally a fan of black and blue together, but something here is off kilter. There's not enough contrast between the top and the pants. Also, not a fan of the hair or eye make-up. This was another miss for me.

Bella Hadid in Alexander Wang
Model, Bella Hadid, wore this bold Alexander Wang catsuit. If you're going to wear something like this, the Met Gala is the place to do it. Surprisingly, I don't hate this. She's got the body for it, it's visually interesting, and styled well. Go for it, Bella!

Cara Delevingne in Chanel
Actress and model, Cara Delevingne looked out of this world in this silver Chanel suit. The suit itself is amazing enough, but all the little silver style details of the shoes, nails, and body glitter really elevated the look. The make-up is gorgeous, and hello, she painted her bald head silver!! This is a woman who gets what the Met Gala is all about. Gorgeous!!
